The minister spoke at a meeting with the diplomatic corps accredited in Angola to report on the national contingency plan for the control of the Covid-19 epidemic and the adequacy to the International Health Regulations.
"We are developing actions to ensure the application of the International Health Regulations to redouble epidemic surveillance in airports and ports and in means of transport from regions and countries with cases of the disease", said Sílvia Lutucuta, cited in a note from the Ministry of Health. The plan is a management tool to ensure preventive conditions in the event of an epidemic outbreak, including concrete rules for organizing, streamlining and standardizing emergency preparedness and response actions.
The minister informed the diplomatic corps about the measures that are being developed by the executive, stressing that they result from the need to reduce the risk of infection and fall within the norms established by the World Health Organization.
"I appeal to everyone to respect the actions of the Angolan executive in this matter, as they aim only to safeguard the well-being of all national and foreign citizens residing in the national territory", said Sílvia Lutucuta.
So far, two suspected cases of infection by the new Covid-19 coronavirus have been identified in Angola, whose laboratory test results were negative, with more than 100 citizens currently in mandatory quarantine centers located in the Barra do Kwanza area and in Calumbo, Luanda province.
The government imposed a mandatory quarantine of at least 14 days on all citizens who, at any time during this epidemic, have been in the People's Republic of China or in contact with patients affected by a new coronavirus.
The Covid-19 coronavirus caused 1873 deaths and infected about 73,400 people worldwide.
