Sweden ready to invest in Angola. Agriculture, tourism and telecommunications in the sights of the Nordics

Sweden wants to share its technological knowledge with Angola in order to help the country grow economically. Initially, Europeans will focus on the tourism sector, which is "in need of further promotion," according to Ewa Polano, the Swedish ambassador to Angola.

In a statement to the press, the ambassador said that the Kingdom of Sweden - considered the number two technology in the world - will bet "on infrastructure, telecommunications and provide more Swedish tourists [to Angola] because it is a sector that needs more promotion to generate revenue for the country".

Ewa Polano also considered that the agricultural sector could also benefit from this cooperation, with the country providing several renewable energy generating technologies.

The transport sector is another of the Nordic country's objectives. The diplomat said Sweden could provide advanced technologies to help improve road safety.

Ewa Polano, who was speaking on the sidelines of an Angola-Sweden workshop on "The ICT sector and the digital economy", left a promise that her country will help Angola boost entrepreneurship, fight corruption and thereby make the country grow.

It seems that the first steps have already been taken in this direction. At the same event, the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, José Carvalho da Rocha, revealed that cooperation between the two countries began with the creation of the White Paper on Technology - which aims to transform the technological and digital sector - and with the first investments in the subway network in Luanda, which were made by Sweden.

"Taking into account the need to continue improving this relationship, during Angotic2019 we signed a memorandum of understanding that will allow the establishment of an advantageous partnership between the two countries and increase the frequency at business and academic level," he said.
