Migration Service concerned with reduced number of staff

The Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) expressed concern about the "small number" of the organization's staff, asking for changes in the form of entry, stating that the current 7041 employees "do not respond to the demand”.

According to the director general of the SME, João António Dias, the current number of employees is a concern for the body he directs, especially for the full coverage of activities at the border level.

For the main migration commissioner, who was speaking during a visit by deputies to the institution's headquarters in Luanda, the current form of entry into the Ministry of Interior is a problem for the SME.

"Now for the entry into the Ministry of the Interior it is the staff who leave the armed forces, this is a problem and we need young people here with a vision, with mastery of information technology, international affairs and it is complicated for us, at this stage, the way (...) to get in, it's difficult ", he said.

For his part, the migration commissioner, Firmino Soma Vie, made it known that the body that controls the mobility of national and foreign citizens in Angola has 18 provincial directorates, 61 municipal representations and 51 border posts.

The SME maintains correspondence with 72 consular posts and has signed several agreements for the free movement of people and goods.

The training of staff, streamlining the visa granting process and the registration and registration of refugees and asylum seekers are some of the challenges facing the organization, which also intends to implement a National Migration Observatory.
