Investigated “alleged Angolans” asking for nationality and residence in Switzerland

The Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) will investigate, in the coming days, with the diplomatic mission in Switzerland the "high number of alleged Angolans" that in the European country requests residence and nationality, was announced.

According to the director general of the SME, João António Dias, a high number of citizens who claim to be Angolans are applying for residence and nationality in Switzerland, but in a quick review of their documents it was concluded that they were not Angolans.

"From the assessment we made quickly and the documentation they presented to us, they are not Angolan, especially since we are creating conditions for 20 days from now to send an investigation team to work with our diplomatic mission in Switzerland", said João António Dias.

The leader, who was speaking this Thursday, at the SME headquarters, in Luanda, during a visit that the deputies made to the institution, also said that "in the very recent past, two alleged Angolans were expelled" from the United States of America (USA).

According to the chief migration commissioner, "more than 60 alleged Angolan citizens" are currently applying for residence in the respective countries. João António Dias revealed that many Angolans emigrated, more than 10 years ago, "with false documents", referring that there are many "pending" processes initiated in the diaspora to request passports under evaluation, together with the Ministry of Justice.

"Some even came out with legal passports, but they got it via the ID card or ID card. We are doing in-depth studies", he noted.

For the director-general of the SME, the pending processes should be overcome, especially when the country begins to issue the new biometric passport, scheduled for the "last quarter of 2020".

“We will be strict in defense of national sovereignty and we will need the support of your excellencies, deputies, because they will condemn us. Otherwise, we will be jeopardizing the country's sovereignty", he said.

The deputies of the 3rd Commission on Foreign Relations, International Cooperation and Angolan Communities Abroad raised several concerns, namely the control of borders, the feasibility of work visas, the working conditions of the staff, among others.
