According to a statement from the government of the province of Luanda (GPL), to which VerAngola had access, the "public presentation of four new vessels from the Luanda Sanitation and Cleaning Company (ELISAL), intended to clean the province's beaches" took place last Sunday, whose act was witnessed by the provincial governor, Luís Nunes.
In addition to aiming to "respond to the problems of cleaning the capital's seafront", the vessels will also serve to ensure a healthy marine environment, among other things.
"With the capacity to transport 2500 kilos of solid waste each, the vessels will also serve to ensure a healthy marine environment, greater ecological stability and the preservation of marine species," the note reads.
According to GLP, the new vessels are "equipped with advanced systems to collect floating waste, such as plastics, bottles, abandoned fishing nets and other debris", the process of which is carried out using a "removable metal basket, which removes it directly from the surface polluting materials from the water".
GLP also reports that each vessel has a "maximum speed of 15 knots (under minimum operating conditions), capacity for 100 liters of fuel and can transport up to 2500 kilos of solid waste".
