In a statement, the National Electricity Transmission Network (RNT) clarifies that the blackout occurred due to an interruption in the North and Center Interconnected System, leaving more than 10 provinces without electricity.
"RNT - National Electricity Transport Network-EP, operator of the public electrical system and manager of the transport network, within the scope of its legal powers arising from presidential decree n.º 305/14 of November 20, on the Organic Statute of RNT-EP, hereby announces that at 2:42 pm this Monday, January 6, 2025, there was an interruption in the North and Center Interconnected System ("black out"), depriving the supply of electricity to the provinces: Luanda; Icolo and Bengo; Bengo; Cuanza Norte; Cuanza Sul; Uíge; Zaire; Malanje; Benguela; Huambo; and Bié", reads the statement, to which VerAngola had access.
The company says it is "investigating the causes of the interruption" and is already working to restore power as quickly as possible.
"The technical teams involved in the operation of the system are working to restore the energy supply as soon as possible", points out the RNT, asking for "maximum understanding for the constraints caused".
