Rui Miguêns guarantees the creation of conditions to stop speculation in the price of bread

The Government is working to try to put a stop to speculation in the price of bread. The guarantee comes from Rui Miguêns, Minister of Industry and Commerce, who informed that they are preparing control conditions to prevent a shortage of wheat flour and, consequently, speculation in the price of bread.

According to the holder of the Industry and Commerce portfolio, these two products (wheat flour and bread) are included in the list of goods with a monitored price system, and, in this sense, conditions are being prepared for their effective implementation.

The minister also added that it is necessary to "give more transparency to this regulation" and, to this end, there is a need to monitor this entire chain. "We need to give more transparency to this regulation. Therefore, we have to monitor the entire chain, from cereal production to the final production of bread", said Rui Miguêns, when speaking at 'CaféCIPRA'.

On the occasion, the minister said that the bread made in Angola comes mainly from wheat flour, and the country already manufactures this product, although it still does not provide a satisfactory response to market demand, which is still largely at the mercy of external factors, writes Angop.

Thus, the minister considered that the development of national production is the solution to stopping wheat imports and, consequently, preventing prices from increasing.

According to Miguêns, cited by Angop, the growth in the level of cereal production will enable companies to turn wheat grains into flour, thus reinforcing their offer on the market.

Among other aspects, he also mentioned that the sector also wants to guarantee the transformation of national agricultural production, so that products reach the final consumer at affordable prices.

According to Gilberto Simão, president of the Association of Bakery and Pastry Industries of Angola (AAIPA), the wheat imported to meet the country's internal demand is being exported again to the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a situation that has caused a lack of this product on the market.

Quoted by the newspaper Opaís, the person responsible says that to try to put an end to this situation, the Executive must move forward with the ban on the export of wheat flour in favor of national production.
