The 28-year-old player, who has 45 caps for Angola, and is currently part of the 'Palancas Negras' squad competing in the African Cup of Nations (CAN2023), signed a contract valid for two and a half seasons with the Barcelos team, in the Nort of Portugal.

Jonathan Buatu thus returns to Portuguese football after having represented Rio Ave in 2018/19 and Desportivo das Aves the following season, on loan from Vila Condenses.

In addition to having played the last two seasons in France, where he participated in 41 matches, the central defender also has spells at Eyuspor, in Turkey, Fulham, in England, and for several clubs in Belgium, the country where he was born, such as Sint-Truiden, Mouscron, Beveren, FC Brussels and Standard Liège.

Jonathan Buatu is the second reinforcement secured by Gil Vicente in this winter market, after the reinstatement of Russian goalkeeper Kritciuk.
