Authorities investigate involvement of members of the corporation in drug trafficking

The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) will open an inquiry into the alleged involvement of the corporation's staff in illicit drug trafficking, the Interior Ministry body said on Friday.

According to a note from SIC, cited by the Angolan news agency, Angop, the opening of the investigation comes in the wake of denunciations circulating on social networks about the existence of an alleged cocaine trafficking network, made up of staff and senior officials of the SIC.

The note also states that, after the denunciations, the investigative process was opened immediately, to verify the veracity of the information, reiterating that it is strongly committed to combating drug trafficking, throughout the entire national territory, especially in the areas borders.

According to the SIC note, the operational work, carried out in cooperation with other defense and security bodies, has produced satisfactory results, which have already led to the apprehension of large quantities of drugs, in the port of Luanda and 4 de Fevereiro International Airport.

In addition to these products, brought from outside the country by travelers who tend to use Angola as a transit point, several intermediaries and others involved in the trafficking chain were detained, reads the Angop text.

SIC appeals to citizens for their continuous collaboration in the presentation of complaints or the provision of information related to drug trafficking, as well as other types of crimes.
