João Lourenço highlights the importance of the Constitutional Court

The importance of the Constitutional Court (TC) in the national judicial system was highlighted this Wednesday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of Gilberto Farias Magalhães as TC councilor judge, the head of state requested a "sense of responsibility" from the magistrates.

Cited by Angop, the PR underlined that the TC will play an important role in the general elections, since this body is responsible, among other functions, for directing justice with regard to legal-constitutional matters and, accordingly, judging appeals filed regarding possible irregularities in voting.

Regarding the new judge, the head of state said that he hopes that he will collaborate with his experience to lift the TC's performance and wished him success in carrying out his new functions, writes Angop.

In addition to the magistrate, Adão Pinto as Angola's ambassador to Senegal, Elmano Francisco as deputy governor of Huambo and the new non-executive directors of the National Bank of Angola (BNA) were also sworn in this Wednesday.

According to a note made available on the Presidency's Facebook, at the ceremony, João Lourenço indicated that "he was repairing a historic mistake by finally appointing, more than four decades later, the first Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the Republic of Senegal".
