Cremation law passes in the specialty. Sílvia Lutucuta emphasizes the importance of the diploma

The deputies of the 1st, 5th and 6th Specialized Working Committees of the National Assembly approved the report 'Joint Opinion on the Cremation Law' with 28 votes in favour, none against and no abstentions.

The amendments to the report, as well as its composition, dominated the meeting between parliamentarians and the Minister of Health, says a statement from the Parliament to which VerAngola had access.

For the head of the sector, from a health point of view, the diploma will help in drastic situations of calamity, being a protection against possible sources of infection, especially when death is caused by an infectious disease.

Sílvia Lutucuta explained that the demand for this type of service has been increasing, indicating that at the moment, for reasons of public health, the country needs legislative support for taking this type of decision.

The law defines the legal regime on the cremation of corpses not buried or exhumed, bones, dead fetuses, anatomical pieces and the exercise of crematory activity.

Its applicability is intended for all natural or legal persons, public or private, who carry out procedures and activities related to the cremation of this type of corpse.

As for crematory establishments, they must have appropriate equipment and comply with the provisions set forth in this law and other applicable legislation. Crematory establishments will be defined in their own legal diploma.

The deadline for cremation, according to point 2 of Article 5, will be 24 hours in proven cases of highly contagious diseases, by epidemic or natural calamity. Cremation can be carried out within the order of the competent health authority, obeying the aforementioned period.

The proposed law prohibits the cremation of dead bodies that is intended to disrespect or offend the dead and their families.

As for the supervision of this activity, it is up to the health authorities to monitor the crematory activity. The diploma also aims to ensure that the entire cremation process is carried out in accordance with health standards, which guarantee the protection of public health.
