Cape Verdean PR says the visit to Angola represents a turning point in relations between the two countries

The Cape Verdean President wished this Monday that his visit to Angola would mean “a profound turning point” in relations between the two countries, based on new bases, which would sustain a diversified strategic partnership.

José Maria Neves was speaking before his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, and the delegation from both countries, during a working meeting.

According to José Maria Neves, this cooperation must be supported by permanent political dialogue at the highest level and mutually beneficial business economic cooperation.

The Cape Verdean head of State invited João Lourenço to carry out a state visit to his country, "which could well be anticipated from the mixed cooperation existing between the two countries".

"It is a great honor and a great satisfaction to be visiting Angola and sharing with you this moment of friendship, fraternity and promotion, with a focus on deepening and intensifying relations between the countries and the sister peoples of Cape Verde and Angola", he said.

José Maria Neves highlighted the "exemplary" political relations, friendship and cooperation between the two countries and peoples, "well demonstrated", given that this is the first visit he makes as President of the Republic and that it takes place in the midst of a of the biggest crises in the world, the covid-19 pandemic and its mutations.

The Cape Verdean statesman thanked the Angolan Government for welcoming and adopting measures to facilitate the smooth integration of the Cape Verdean community into Angolan society.

"I am convinced that our visit constitutes a unique occasion for the relaunch and strengthening of the already historic and excellent bonds of friendship, fraternity and cooperation between Angola and Cape Verde in the most diverse areas", he said.

According to the President of Cape Verde, bilaterally, there is an enormous potential for cooperation in various sectors, including transport, trade, tourism, fishing and agriculture, security, finance, education and training of human resources, public administration and information technologies , renewable energies, health, culture, "which must be capitalized on for the sustainable development of both countries".

"In this regard, I highlight the potential for cooperation in the field of public administration, science, technology and innovation between the Agostinho Neto University and the National School of Administration and Public Policies with their Cape Verdean counterparts", he said.

José Maria Neves believes that economic and business cooperation can be a driving force for relations between the two States, through partnerships in the most diverse sectors, taking into account the potential of both parties, namely in the field of air and maritime transport, fisheries, finance, agriculture, public works and civil construction, among others.

José Maria Neves welcomed some Angolan investments in his country, namely BAI Cape Verde, UNITEL and Sonangol, expressing enormous satisfaction for the re-launch of cooperation in the air transport sector and the resumption of the protocols signed between the Civil Aviation Agency of Cape Verde, Angola's National Civil Aviation Authority, and TACV and TAAG, airlines from both countries.

"I also consider the negotiations in the air transport sectors to be extremely important with a view to implementing a strategic partnership for the joint exploration of destinations," he said.

For the Cape Verdean President, the institutionalization of a dialogue mechanism between the investment and export agencies of the two countries, with a view to encouraging greater business dynamics, involving companies from both countries, oriented towards the export of goods and services, Aiming at the active integration of both economies into the global and regional markets is also of utmost importance.

"I believe that there are still immense potentials, in bringing Angola closer to West Africa, with Cape Verde being able to play a 'hub' role in important areas such as air and maritime transport, logistics and fisheries", he said, expressing all the willingness of Cape Verde to continue to deepen the ways and means to reinforce the concertation in the scope of international, regional and sub-regional organizations.
