President wants cooperation with Cape Verde to extend to new sectors

The President defended this Monday in Luanda that cooperation with Cape Verde should continue to develop in order to be extended to unexplored sectors, it being necessary to overcome obstacles posed by the covid-19 pandemic.

João Lourenço, who was speaking in the context of a visit started this Monday by his counterpart from Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, the first State visit he has carried out as President of the Republic, said that this cooperation should take advantage of the human factor as the main axis on which the development of nations must be based.

"Our countries have capacities in various areas of national life, which must be enhanced and in which we must seek to focus our actions in order to reap significant benefits from the cooperation that we develop in these sectors", said the President.

João Lourenço considered the meeting a great opportunity to address the best way to promote in a practical sense all existing initiatives, which aim to make cooperation between both States increasingly broad and diversified.

"For this purpose, we have to overcome current obstacles that covid-19 imposes on us, which have largely conditioned the economic growth of Angola and Cape Verde over the last two years, has caused unemployment and other social problems that we must try to solve", he stressed.

The head of State also stated that it is Angola's will to strengthen friendly relations and economic cooperation with Cape Verde, "with a view to strategic cooperation between the two countries, so that both parties obtain from it the greatest benefits for the good. of their respective peoples".

João Lourenço highlighted the fact that the Cape Verdean President has included in his delegation businessmen from various sectors of the Cape Verdean economy, who with their Angolan counterparts could create an important dynamic in trade between the two countries for the benefit of both economies.

"I am convinced that together we will be able to work for the creation of all the mechanisms and incentives that encourage this movement of entrepreneurs that we want to be growing and permanent", he referred.

According to João Lourenço, the two countries have a similar history and political trajectory, which encourages "walking together to broaden and deepen existing bonds of friendship and cooperation, with a view to achieving progress and socioeconomic development in our countries".

José Maria Neves arrived in Cape Verde on Sunday, where he will remain until Tuesday, for an official visit, and this Monday is scheduled, in addition to meeting his Angolan counterpart, an intervention in the National Assembly of Angola.
