Sika Angola plans to increase production capacity by 20 percent this year

Sika Angola plans to increase production capacity by 20 percent this year, as a result of an investment of around US$1.2 million, by the management of the Swiss-based multinational.

Ricardo Rocha, administrator of the company dedicated to the production of construction materials, said that at the beginning of 2022, it ceased to be a subsidiary of Portugal and that it now follows the instructions of the headquarters, located in Zurich.

Speaking to Angop, the official explained that the departure from Portugal brought with it a remodeling of the company as well as the opening of another production line and an investment of US$1.2 million.

Thus, with this investment and, consequently, with the new line, the company expects to reach a production capacity of around 60 thousand tons per year, compared to the previous 50 thousand.

Ricardo Rocha informed that the new line has already been obtained and that it will start operating shortly.

According to Angop, this line will not only make it possible to reduce imports but also generate new jobs. The company's new plan assumes the hiring, in the order of 10 percent, of new workers, who will integrate the team currently made up of 55 employees.

The official indicated that, although the emergence of covid-19 has worsened the economy, more than half of sales (60 percent) correspond to national production.

The official added that in 2020, because of the pandemic, production fell by around 50 percent and there were business losses of around 70 percent. However, he reported that these losses have been restored, albeit slowly.

Ricardo Rocha was still optimistic about the future, since with the start of public works conjectured for this year, Sika Angola promises to increase its sales.
