Pietro Toigo is the new representative of BAD in Angola

Téte António received, late Monday afternoon, in Luanda, the credentials that enable Pietro Toigo to perform the duties of Representative of the African Development Bank (ADB) in Angola.

:

The act of handing over the credentials took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in downtown Luanda, in the presence of Ambassador Miguel Bembe, the Director of the Africa, Middle East and Regional Organizations Directorate of MIREX, Alvaro Lutucuta, the Head of Department of Directorate of International Cooperation (DCI) and the Consultant to the Minister's Office, Márcio Burity.

It should be remembered that the ADB is a multinational development bank, created in 1964, of which 53 African countries are members, being financed by 24 European, American and Asian countries. Its mission is to foster economic development and social progress in Africa.

It is based in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, but its activities have been temporarily transferred to Tunis since September 2003, following the 2002 attempted coup d'état and the start of the civil war in Côte d'Ivoire.

The African Development Bank Group also includes the African Development Fund (ADF), created in 1972, and the Nigeria Special Fund, created by the Nigerian State in 1976.

The main objective of the African Development Bank Group is to promote sustained growth for poverty reduction through the financing of development projects and programs, through credits, investments and technical assistance to regional member countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states, in a statement to which VerAngola had access, that the ADB has helped the Government to translate its vision into reality. "It designed its country strategy to help Angola in the best possible way", they refer.

It has been focused on accelerating economic diversification and reducing dependence on oil through integrated investments, agricultural transformation and promoting industrialization for sustainable job creation and poverty reduction.

The Government states that it intends to maintain a partnership with the African Development Bank in areas that are essential for the country's economic growth and development, such as infrastructure development, education, health, agriculture, poverty eradication, among others.
