Petro de Luanda and the 1st of August were nominated to represent Angola in the African Champions League, since the championship was cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic. The 1st of August was eliminated by the South Africans from Kaizer Chiefs and did not reach the group stage.
Petro de Luanda qualified last Wednesday after beating the Zambians of Nkana by a ball to zero.
In Group D were Zamalek, from Egypt, along with Esperança from Tunis, from Tunisia, Alger, from Algeria, and Teungueth, from Senegal.
Teungueth is one of the 'surprise' teams of the race, as they eliminated in the preliminary round the 'super favourite' Raja Casablanca, Moroccan champion, with a 3-1 victory in the big penalties, after the null in both games.
In his debut, Zamalek receives Alger in Egypt, on a date still to be designated, and then faces Teungueth, on Senegalese soil.
The Egyptians of Al Ahly, holders of the title, were placed in Group A along with AS Vita (DR Congo), Simba (Tanzania) and Al Merreikh (Sudan).
In Group B were Mazembe (RD Congo), Sundowns (South Africa), Al-Hilal (Sudan) and Belouizdad (Algeria).
The top two in each group proceeded to the quarterfinals.
