Education, environment, aviation, fisheries, hydrocarbons, defence and security were some of the areas that the President of Ghana has shown interest in in order to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
At the hearing, Bornito de Sousa delivered a message from the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to the Ghanaian President.
The Secretary of State for Foreign Relations, Esmeralda Mendonça, quoted by Angop, revealed that João Lourenço's message was about the Free Trade Zone, the partnership between the UN and the African Union, the Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone - which aims to promote regional cooperation and maintain peace and security in the South Atlantic region - of which Angola and Ghana are part.
On the fact that Ghana has the rotating presidency of the Economic Community of West African States and Angola chairs the Economic Community of Central African States, she stressed that this will help to "bring together synergies for the establishment of policies that promote continental peace and security".
In addition to the inauguration ceremony, Bornito de Sousa also met with the president of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, and the secretary general of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, Makele Mene. The latter took the opportunity to reveal that he will be visiting Angola to thank the Angolan authorities for their support in his election to the board of COMESA.
