Covid-19: country with two more dead and 82 cases, including eight after landing

The country has registered 82 new cases of covid-19, among which eight infections diagnosed in passengers returning to the country, through testing after landing, and two more deaths, announced this Wednesday the Secretary of State for Public Health.

According to Franco Mufinda, the new cases appeared in Luanda (28), Huambo (25), Bié (21) Cabinda (07) and Moxico (01), aged between 4 and 79 years, 45 males and 37 females.

In the last 24 hours, there have been two deaths in Luanda, one male and one female, aged 56 and 74, both Angolan.

On the other hand, 99 people were considered recovered from the disease.

The mandatory post-disembarkation testing of passengers coming from abroad, carried out since Saturday, allowed the identification of eight more cases of covid-19 in travelers from São Paulo, Brazil (1), Dubai (3), Portugal (2) and Frankfurt (2).

Among these passengers, two are Angolan, two Brazilian, one is French, two are Nigerian and one is Israeli.

They are being accompanied in a public isolation center for clinical, epidemiological and laboratory procedures.

"The above table illustrates the danger that surrounds us in making unnecessary trips at such a particular moment in the world, with the emergence of new variants of the virus," alerted the Secretary of State, calling on passengers on the last flights to redouble their vigilance in the face of possible symptoms.

As of January 24, air connections with Portugal, Brazil and South Africa are temporarily suspended.

The balance thus rises to 19,083 cases of covid-19 in Angola, of which 444 deaths, 16,921 recovered and 1728 active, including seven in critical condition and eight seriously ill.

Angolan laboratories processed 1819 samples, while the cumulative figure points to 341,457 samples.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 2,058,226 deaths from over 96.1 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a review by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
