Covid-19: Africa with 584 more deaths and 29,267 cases in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded a further 584 deaths from covid-19 and 29,267 new cases of infection, bringing the total numbers to 72,705 and 3,051,036, respectively, according to the latest official pandemic data on the continent.

According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the number of recovered people in the organization's 55 member states in the past 24 hours was 15,940 to a total of 2,466,432 since the start of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,391,189 infected and 35,654 deaths. South Africa alone, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,231,596 cases and 33,163 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 984,035 cases and 25,931 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 332,573 infections and 6165 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 263,953 and that of deaths is 3444, and in Central Africa there are 78,286 cases and 1511 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 8197 deaths and 149,792 infected, followed by Morocco, with 7743 fatalities and 452,532 infected.

Among the six most affected countries are also Tunisia, with 5215 deaths and 159,276 infected, Algeria, with 2807 deaths and 102,144 cases, Ethiopia, with 1994 fatalities and 128,316 infections, and Kenya, with 1710 deaths and 98,271 infected.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola has 416 deaths and 18,193 cases, followed by Mozambique (192 deaths and 21,939 cases), Cape Verde (114 deaths and 12,392 cases), Equatorial Guinea (86 deaths and 5296 cases), Guinea -Bissau (45 dead and 2478 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 killed and 1066 cases).
