Covid-19: Government starts year with relief from measures but maintains fence in Luanda

Angola started 2021 with relief from the preventive measures against the covid-19, foreseeing the return to school in February and the presence of the public in the sports fields this month, according to the new decree on the situation of public calamity.

The decree-law that updates the prevention and control measures in the face of the covid-19 pandemic during the public calamity situation, which has already been extended eight times, entered into force at 12:00 am on Monday and extends the term until the 9 de Fevereiro, maintaining the sanitary fence in Luanda.

According to the decree, primary school students (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades), whose classes have been suspended since March 2020 as a result of covid-19, return to 10 February to classroom teaching activities.

Classes from 6th to 13th classes, which started again on October 5th, as well as those from higher education, remain, but there is still no date for the restart of pre-school activities.

From the 18th of January, the presence of a public in the games and federated modalities is allowed, limited to 10 percent of the capacity of the enclosures and as long as the rules of biosafety and physical distance are observed.

In the case of the churches, which were authorized to hold celebrations every day of the week during the Christmas season, the services were once again held only four days a week.

Commercial establishments and services such as hairdressers can operate between 7:00 am and 10:00 pm, with 100 percent of the workforce and customers, while restaurants and the like maintain hours from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm with 100 percent of the workforce and 50 percent of the capacity.

The country keeps its borders closed, with the entry and exit of the territory subject to the presentation of a pre-shipment test for the SARS-CoV2 virus with a negative result, while the interprovincial circulation to and from Luanda is subject to the presentation of a valid serological test. for seven days.

In the first ten days of the year, an average of 64 new infections per day were reported in Angola. The festive season was also reflected in the decrease in the number of samples processed, with an average of 1200 per day, between 1 and 10 January.

Angola currently has 18,193 cases of covid-19, of which 13,872 recovered, 3905 are active, including nine critics and eight serious ones, with 416 resulting in death.

On Friday, the country broke a new record with 757 recovered from the disease and announced 493 recoveries on Saturday and 667 on Sunday.
