Portuguese bank considers that 'Luanda Leaks' case "undoubtedly does not help" the bank's reputation

The president of Portuguese bank Santander Totta said this Thursday that the 'Luanda Leaks' case "undoubtedly does not help" the bank's reputation, quoting Warren Buffet to say that "reputation takes 20 years to achieve and five minutes to disappear.

"Regarding reputation, it certainly doesn't help," Pedro Castro e Almeida replied when asked about the 'Luanda Leaks' case and the alleged financial schemes that may have had Portuguese banking (notably through EuroBic) as a vehicle for transactions by businesswoman Isabel dos Santos.

Pedro Castro e Almeida said he had the perception and knowledge that "the reputation of the sector and banking is not good in Portugal, not good in Europe, and not good in the world".

"Since 2008, it's something that hasn't been able to improve, and as Warren Buffet [an American millionaire] used to say, reputation takes 20 years to achieve and five minutes to disappear. And it's really taking us a long time to get on the rail, and I say worldwide, to build these 20 years, which take a long time," he acknowledged.

Pedro Castro e Almeida said a few days ago he had seen a 'ranking' in which world banking, among 50 sectors of activity, "appeared in penultimate place".
