Fight against corruption is an important part of the support programme for Angola, says IMF

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) considered this Wednesday to Lusa that the fight against corruption is "an important part" of the financial support program for Angola, advocating the growing use of electronic platforms for public works.

:

Asked by Lusa about the impact of the disclosure of the investigation by the consortium of journalists known as 'Luanda Leaks', the head of the IMF communication department who liaises with the country said that this anti-corruption effort "involves strengthening relevant legislation, such as preparing improvements to the law against money laundering and terrorist financing, and other laws promoting better governance in public institutions.

"We do not comment on ongoing criminal investigations, trials or released documents, but in general, like other IMF programs, the fight against corruption is an important part of the Extended Funding Program in Angola," Gediminas Vilkas said.

And added that "this effort also involves increasing public transparency, for example through the timely publication of certified annual accounts of public companies and an increase in the use of electronic platforms for awarding public contracts.

This is one of the central issues in the data released by the International Research Journalism Consortium (ICIJ), which on Sunday revealed over 715,000 files, under the name of 'Luanda Leaks', detailing financial schemes of Isabel dos Santos and her husband, which will have allowed money to be taken from the Angolan public treasury, using tax havens.
