Fear of public exposure makes JES to cancel his return to Luanda

Sources close to JES, quoted by the newspaper O Decreto, revealed that the former president had cancelled the trip to avoid public exposure. JES will have canceled the trip to avoid being artfully received at the 4 de Fevereiro airport, advance the same sources.

:

José Eduardo dos Santos will have cancelled his return trip to Luanda - scheduled for last Friday, January 10.

According to sources close to the former president, cited by the newspapper O Decreto, JES has decided to cancel the trip to avoid public exposure. According to the same newspaper, the former governor will have canceled the trip to avoid being received in a "supportive" way at the 4 de Fevereiro airport.

For now there are no forecasts of when JES will return to Luanda. According to family sources, also cited by the O Decreto, JES will be waiting for more medical orders: "It's been worse but it's getting better, it just can't travel for medical advice".

When it was revealed last week that JES would return to Luanda, experts considered his return a demonstration that the former governor had not turned his back on the country.

Olívio Kilumbo, a political science specialist, quoted by the Hora H newspaper, said JES's return could be seen as a sign that the former president would participate in the country's social and political affairs.

Seydú Guimarães, professor of Constitutional Law and Political Science, said that the presence of JES in Luanda would not hinder the work done in the fight against corruption: "I do not think that the presence of the former President José Eduardo dos Santos, could inhibit or embarrass the fight against corruption in progress, but we can admit that there is a consultation between President José Eduardo dos Santos and President João Lourenço in another aspect, in the National interest and also in the Party itself".

JES left Luanda in April 2019,and has been living in Barcelona, Spain.
