Handball ‘Pérolas’ seal passage to the CAN semi-finals after beating Algeria

Angola remains strong in the race to revalidate the African Nations Championship (CAN) handball title, which takes place in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The senior women's national team of the sport, after ending the group stage undefeated, beat, this Wednesday, the Algerian counterpart, thus guaranteeing passage to the semi-finals of the competition.

After an excellent performance in the group stage, the 'Pérolas' once again showed their determination, having been responsible for opening the scoring in the game against Algeria.

Only after Angola had already scored nine goals did Algeria manage to 'penetrate' the Angolan goal. However, the score was always in favor of Angola, and the game went to halftime with the team winning 19-8.

In the second half, Angola was able to maintain the advantage, with the match ending 34-15, in favor of the 'Pérolas'.

Helena Paulo was considered the game's most valuable player (MVP), joining Angolans Albertina Cassoma, Marília Quizelete, Vilma Nenganga and Marta Alberto, who were also considered MVP during this competition.

With this victory, Angola moves to the semi-finals of the competition. The team returns to the scene on Friday, competing in the 'semi' with the team that wins the game between DRC and Egypt, scheduled for the end of this Wednesday afternoon.

It is worth remembering that, in the group stage, Angola finished first in group B, made up equally of teams from Cameroon, DRC, Tunisia, Guinea and Uganda. At this stage, the national team gained 10 points, after winning all the games.
