Ana Dias Lourenço calls for everyone's involvement in the fight against child and youth violence

Everyone's involvement in the fight against child and youth violence was the appeal left by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, this Thursday, when she spoke at the presentation ceremony of the Action Plan of the 'We Are All Equal' Campaign, whose the launch of this campaign took place in August this year.

"Feel part of this fight against child violence. Look at the children in your families, in your communities, look at the girls who laugh and play, and think about what we can do today to ensure they are safe and protected", she appealed.

"Education for gender equality and the fight against child and youth violence should not just be a motto, but one of the pillars for a future in which no girl or boy is forced to bear the pain and marks of violence", said Ana Dias Lourenço, cited by Angop.

According to the First Lady of the Republic, the aforementioned campaign reflects the concern with human rights: "It reflects our concern with human rights, the dignity of each citizen and in particular with the protection and education of children and young people".

At the time, she considered that that ceremony not only "reinforces the bonds" of unity "around social causes", but also marks the commitment to a better future.

"Your presence today not only reinforces the ties that unite us around social causes, but also marks our commitment to a fairer and more inclusive future for all," she said.

According to data from the National Children's Institute (INAC), cited by Ana Dias Lourenço, on average, four children suffer violence every day in the country, with the majority (approximately 90 percent) of cases occurring at home, in places where children should receive affection and protection.

She also spoke about sexual violence, considering that its consequences extend beyond the act, as they "destroy dreams, destroy families and leave scars that can last a lifetime", stating that victims, especially children, need justice, but also of support, affection and a system that restores their dignity, writes Angop.

According to the First Lady of the Republic, the Campaign Action Plan translates into a solution to alleviate this situation.

"This is a collective effort and a responsibility of all of us that requires a sense of mission. The data on gender-based violence, especially against children, challenges us to act with determination and urgency", said Ana Dias Lourenço, quoted by Angop.
