Abel Chivukuvuku was addressing the 270 members of the national intermediate and grassroots structures, who participated in the second ordinary meeting of the provisional steering committee of PRA-JA Servir Angola, a party legalized on October 7 of this year by the Constitutional Court.
According to Abel Chivukuvuku, in 2027, the year of the next general elections in the country, PRA-JA Servir Angola will be “Government or part of the Government”, but “in a positive way, in a patriotic way”, contributing its ideas for the future of the country.
“2027 is just around the corner, either we are Government or we are part of the Government. That is why we are holding this meeting, so that the year does not end like this. In this meeting, we are laying the foundations for what 2025 should be (…), we have to prepare for all circumstances and eventualities, which is why 2025 will be a critical year for the work”, he said.
For next year, Abel Chivukuvuku highlighted that there will be dialogue with everyone, openness to citizens and willingness to build the country's future.
At the meeting, Chivukuvuku asked the members of PRA-JA Servir Angola to be prepared for the challenges of 2025, the year scheduled for the first constituent congress.
At the meeting, the terms of reference for the congress were established and the composition of the body was approved, with the specific function of creating, by February 2025, the necessary conditions for convening the congress.
According to Abel Chivukuvuku, it took “a lot of faith, a lot of conviction, but above all certainty” that led to the legalization of the party, after several rejections by the Constitutional Court, in a process that began in 2019.
“But have no illusions, it was not easy and it will not be easy going forward. Get ready! (...), we are going to surprise the country”, said Abel Chivukuvuku to those present, among whom stood out leaders of the United Patriotic Front (FPU) - UNITA and the Democratic Bloc in particular -, and representatives of the embassies of Portugal, China, Russia, France and political parties, among which, for the first time, the MPLA, the ruling party.
At the meeting, after some specific adjustments to the statutes, an analysis was made of the political situation “and the deplorable economic and social conditions of the population”, according to a statement issued at the end of the meeting.
In his speech, the general coordinator of the provisional steering committee of PRA-JA Servir Angola referred to the problems that the country faces, almost 50 years after its independence, which will be highlighted next year.
Chivukuvuku criticized the fact that, 50 years later, Angolans still have “the tendency not to accept the truth of the facts”, considering that “it is unacceptable” that there is still “the psycho-historical trauma” of not accepting that three leaders, from three movements, were part of the struggle for independence.
“When will we have the courage to say that we will accept the truth: Agostinho Neto (leader of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola), Holden Roberto (leader of the National Front for the Liberation of Angola), Jonas Savimbi (leader of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola). What is the cost? But we don’t have the capacity. How are we going to build the country like this”, he questioned.
The politician argued that it is time for all political actors to sit down and design the Angola of the next 50 years, “all together, building bridges”.
“We, PRA-JA, are available, we are ready, [to] sit at the table as Angolans, without limits and without barriers, with everyone, and decide what country we want to leave to future generations in 50 years’ time”, he stressed.
