According to a Government statement, to which VerAngola had access, Angola's proposal consisted of "amending number 4 of article 22 of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption".

Thus, the term of office of the members of the AU Advisory Council for Combating Corruption will be increased from two to three years. This expansion, according to the statement, aims to reinforce the efficiency of this body.

"The mandate of the members of the African Union Advisory Council for Combating Corruption will be extended from two to three renewable years, to reinforce the effectiveness of this body", the note reads.

The session took place last Monday and Tuesday (18 and 19 December), at the AU headquarters, and was led by the Minister of Constitutional and Legal Affairs of Tanzania, Pindi Hazara Chana.

"The proposal will also be submitted at the meeting of the Executive Council of the African Union, before the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, taking place from 14 to 18 February 2024, in Addis Ababa", says the statement.

The Specialized Technical Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, the note adds, recommended the "ratification of the Protocol relating to the Statute of the African Court of Justice and Human Rights (Sharm El Sheikh Protocol – 2008) and the Malabo Protocol – 2014".

In another extraordinary meeting, the technical committee assessed the Draft Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights on Specific Aspects of the Right to Nationality and the Eradication of Statelessness in Africa.

The national delegation, which participated in both meetings, was led by the ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Miguel Bembe.
