Government wants to subsidize medicines for the treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases

The subsidy of medicines to treat chronic non-communicable diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, sickle cell anemia and mental illnesses, is part of the Government's intentions which, according to Carlos Pinto de Sousa, Secretary of State for Public Health, a study on this subsidy is being developed.

According to the person responsible – who was speaking, this Tuesday, at the end of the 5th Ordinary Meeting of the Committee for Social Policy of the Council of Ministers, which was guided by Dalva Ringote, Minister of State – the quantification of the aforementioned diseases is underway, as well as the financial costs for users.

Furthermore, the Secretary of State said, cited by Angop, that the study also covers the determination of the price system and a financial plan that is sustainable and viable in favor of families, especially those most in need.

At the time, he said they were aware of this problem, which is why they were working. "We are concerned and attentive to the problem of vulnerable families when purchasing these medicines. For this reason, we are working on this matter", said Carlos Ponto de Sousa, quoted by Jornal de Angola.

At the meeting, still within the health domain and within the framework of the simplify 2.0 project, a draft Presidential Decree was also analyzed that defines the standards and procedures regarding the licensing of pharmaceutical activity, aiming to speed up the process of issuing permission for the its exercise, to encourage free initiative and entrepreneurship in the sector, thus contributing to improvements in the business climate in the country, writes Angop.

Outside the field of Health, among other documents under consideration by the committee, the draft Regulation on the Exercise of Mineral, Oil and Gas Resources Exploration Activities in conservation areas stands out, as well as a draft Regulation on the Areas of Environmental Conservation, among others.

Topics such as the state of implementation of the "Kwenda" Social Protection Strengthening Program, throughout the third quarter of this year, were also on the table at the meeting.
