ARMED prohibits commercialization of therapeutic milks F-75 and F-100

The Medicines and Health Technologies Regulatory Agency (ARMED) banned the marketing and use of therapeutic milks F-75 and F-100 manufactured by New Cesamex. At issue is the fact that these products are different from those approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the amount of proteins and high number of micronutrients, whose adulteration seriously affects the treatment of children in a state of malnutrition, ending up damaging public health.

This prohibition is expressed in order no. 025/ARMED/MINSA/2023, dated December 4th and initialed by Katiza Mangueira, general director of the agency.

According to the document, cited by Angop, health institutions that have milk without WHO approval must proceed with its identification, collection and return to the supplier.

As for importers, they are advised to carry out an inventory, as well as remove products from the market and communicate to ARMED in order to comply with the following measures.

Among the guidelines is also one directed to the General Inspection of Health Activities and the Inspection Departments of the Provincial Health Offices, in order to provide support with regard to the implementation of the order, writes Angop.

The agency also reaffirms that therapeutic milk obtained by the National Health Service must be distributed free of charge.

It should be noted that, according to Angop, F-75 and F-100 milk are used in the initial treatment and during the rehabilitation and treatment period of patients with severe acute malnutrition, respectively.
