Sonangol invests more than 250 thousand dollars in renewable energy filling station

The state oil company Sonangol opened its first gas station with a photovoltaic energy source, in Luanda, an investment of 254,000, as part of its energy transition strategy.

The Anduri Gas Station, located in the municipality of Icolo e Bengo, Estrada Nacional 230, 120 kilometers from the center of the capital, has 102 photovoltaic panels installed in its structure, a battery charging system and autonomy to operate 24/7. 24 hours.

The infrastructure was inaugurated this Friday by the president of the executive committee of Sonangol Distribuição e Comercialização, Eusébio Vunge, and by the president of the executive committee of Sonangol Gás e Energias Renováveis, Manuel Barros.

Both officials expressed themselves "proud" of the project, which, they said, signals "an important step towards the energy transition" of the oil company, having guaranteed that the initiative will be replicated, from 2024, in 17 filling stations spread across the country .

According to Eusébio Vunge, the strategic guidelines of the Sonangol group assume that at least 12 percent of the oil company's investment program, in 2024, will be allocated to renewable energy.

"We must, by 2030, have 25 percent of our operations in renewable energy. We must also decarbonize our operations and this is an important step in this direction," he said.

The president of the executive committee of Sonangol Gás & Energias Renováveis, Manuel Barros, said, on the occasion, that this first photovoltaic project, budgeted at 254 thousand dollars and 100 percent investment from the oil company, is the result of a "gigantic effort" by the company.

"It was a project designed and executed with the active participation of Sonangol employees and will be operated 100 percent by Sonangol. It is a great milestone for our strategy towards the energy transition", he highlighted.

Manuel Barros considered the inauguration of the Anduri Gas Station as "an important milestone for the sustainability" of the company's operations and, "above all, for the national contribution determined in efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions".

He expressed satisfaction with the project, whose 102 photovoltaic panels are installed on the top of the structure, referring to it as a "good and successful" experience and, therefore, "will be replicated from 2024 onwards at 17 more gas stations" .

Regarding actions for the energy transition underway at Sonangol, Manuel Barros stated that the company is, at the moment, in the process of massive investment in the sector, noting that a second project with renewable energy will be installed, later this year, in the filling of gas in Cubal, Benguela province.

"At this Anduri station we have an expected economy of scale of more than 60 tons/year, with a contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions of less than 180 tons per month", concluded the director of the oil company.
