Castel Group estimates to harvest 18 thousand tons of corn in 2021

The executive director of Castel Angola group, Philippe Federic, revealed that the group plans to harvest, as of the second half of next year, around 18 thousand tons of maize in the agricultural project of Malanje province. Using the production of its own project will save the group about US$15 million as it will stop importing material to produce beverages.

According to him, five thousand hectares are being explored to produce grains (in English: grits), which are used in the manufacture of beer.

In declarations to Angop, the director of Castel Angola group - responsible for the production of Cuca, Nocal, Eka and N'gola beers - revealed that 8000 tons of grains are being used to supply three breweries.

Using the production of its own project, will allow the group to save about 15 million dollars, since it will no longer import material to produce the beverages, he said.

Besides the internal producers of corn and barley, the responsible admitted that the company has been acquiring another kind of material from the national producers, giving the example of Vidrul which supplies glass bottles and Tampac for cans.

Philippe Federic also explained that around 1800 hectares of the project, valued at 40 million dollars, have already been deforested, and a "system and irrigation of 600 meters, a retention basin, a pumping station and 27 kilometers of pipes to supply five pivots" is being installed.

On the impact caused by the covid-19 pandemic, he revealed that the group had a sharp drop, "in the order of 45 to 50 percent in production and sales.

Due to the breaks, the company had to temporarily close some factories and lay off about 1400 workers. It also had to reduce the price of the beer bottle from 300 to 150 kwanzas.

"With this strategy it was possible the progressive resumption of production and sales and also the reframing of around 200 employees in several units of the group", he indicated.
