Covid-19: country reports 81 new cases, one death and more than 100 recovered

The country registered 81 new cases of covid-19 and one more death, while 117 people recovered from the disease, the national director of Public Health, Helga Freitas said this Tuesday.

Among the newly infected, 37 are from Luanda province, 31 from Benguela, six from Huambo, five from Kwanza Sul and another five from Zaire, two from Benguela, two from Uige, one from Moxico and one from Kwanza Norte.

These are 60 male and 21 female patients, whose ages range from 1 month to 78 years.

In the last 24 hours a death by covid-19 was registered, which had a history of hypertension and diabetes, while 117 people recovered from the disease.

The country counts 15,729 positive cases since March 21, with 355 deaths, 8470 recovered and 6904 active, including seven in critical condition and six severe.

A total of 2531 samples have been analyzed in the last 24 hours, in a cumulative of 255,074 tests processed to date, revealing a positivity rate of 6.2 percent.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 1,545,320 deaths from more than 67 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 54,101 confirmed deaths in more than 2.2 million infected in 55 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics on the continent.

Among Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola registers 355 deaths and 15,729 cases, followed by Mozambique (133 deaths and 16,373 cases), Cape Verde (109 deaths and 11,098 cases), Equatorial Guinea (85 deaths and 5159 cases), Guinea-Bissau (44 deaths and 2444 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 deaths and 997 cases).

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
