Total and Greentech-Angola will proceed with the construction of a solar power plant. The solar park will be installed in Lubango, in Huila, and will have a capacity of 35 MWp.

Once built, the park will be able to supply power to the national grid. This park will also save a significant amount of fuel when compared to other thermal centers that already exist in the country.

"The project is part of the objectives of promoting foreign investment and renewable energy, to reach 800 MW of installed capacity in the country by 2025," revealed Total, in a statement quoted by Angop.

According to the note, for the development, financing, construction and operation of the project Total holds a 75 percent stake and Greentech-Angola holds 25 percent. In addition, Total has made it known that the possibility of Sonangol entering the project is on the table, but nothing has yet been defined.

Fabienne Demol, executive vice president and global business development director for Total, said the company is excited about the project: "We are looking forward to the next steps in the development of the project," she said.

Jorge Salvador, co-founder of Greentech-Angola, assured that "the project will provide clean and affordable electricity to the population of Huila province, while bringing immediate economic benefits to Angola".

"The joint work will be decisive in mastering the challenges arising from the implementation of one of the first solar photovoltaic projects at utilization scale financed and operated by independent partners in Angola," he said, indicating that the company is eager to work with the Ministry of Energy and Water, the National Transport Network, the Public Enterprise of Electricity Production and the Regulatory Institute of Water and Electricity Services.

For the development of the project, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Energy and Water.
