The installation of the panels is budgeted at around 500 million dollars, said João Baptista Jorge, estimating that the project will take two years to complete.
"The intention is to make a quick transition from fossil fuels [which are expensive] to clean and renewable fuels [which are cheaper]," he explained.
The minister, who spoke during a Business Forum in Africa at the 33rd African Union summit in Addis Ababa, revealed that solar panels will be installed in Benguela, Moxico, Lunda Sul, Lunda Norte and Huambo.
João Baptista Borges said that this investment would reinforce the country's commitment to energy transition, noting that Angola had been trying to reduce the use of fossil fuels to produce energy.
