Chinese businessman arrested in Angola suspected of forging money

Police detained one angolan citizen and seven chinese in possession of more than 50 million fake kwanzas suspected of counterfeiting money at Cidade da China, a shopping center in Luanda. Luanda's Cidade de China shopping center, local media reported Friday.

According to local authorities, the angolan citizen, cleaning assistant in the shopping center, was arrested while shopping with counterfeit banknotes in the market of Estalagem, municipality of Viana, having been detected by the sellers.

Following the investigations, with the involvement of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), according to the corporation, 50.2 million counterfeit kwanzas were found in possession of the angolan.

Among the seven chinese detained on Wednesday is a businessman and owner of a suspicious chinese firm involved in the counterfeiting scheme.

According to the Prosecutor of the Republic of Viana, Luís Bento Júnior, the arrest of the seven chinese citizens was due to the charges made by the cleaning assistant.

According to the magistrate, investigations continue "in search of material truth" and the defendants remain detained.
