According to the director of Port Operations, José Santana, the product arrived on board the ship ATA-M, coming from San Lourenzo, Argentina, the importer being the Lobito Customs Warehouse.
The official also added that the port has conditions for unloading the goods within five to six days, depending on the rotation of the lorries, which belong to the cargo receiver.
"As it is not a question of sacks or big bags, we are going to use three hoppers (equipment made up of large buckets and hydraulic pumps, coupled to a metal frame), to transfer to the trucks," he explained, quoted by Angop.
José Santana also added that cargo under these conditions is simpler, faster and less expensive to handle.
The ship's navigation agent, António Cláudio, said that the berthing process went well, noting that the entire ship's team was tested with covid-19 before berthing.
This is the first ship that calls the Port of Lobito with merchandise for the Food Reserve, and the Port of Luanda has already received 30,000 tonnes of sugar.
It should be remembered that the Government launched the Strategic Food Reserve as a way of regulating the market and influencing lower prices for essential food products that make up the basic food basket.
