According to the municipal supervisor of the nutrition program in Cubal, Custódia Cahunda, in statements broadcast by Angolan public radio, 8110 children were interned, of which 4823 were cured and 147 abandoned treatment.

A government report on food insecurity and acute malnutrition analyzed the situation in three provinces (Namibe, Huíla and Cunene) between March and May this year, with the sample registering a total of 11,400 affected children.

The study made a projection, for the period between October 2021 and February 2022, "corresponding to the time of food shortage and the highest incidence of acute malnutrition", which indicates that the situation could continue to deteriorate.

In July of this year, the representative of the World Food Program (WFP) in Angola, Michele Missoni, called attention to the increase in acute malnutrition, particularly in children under the age of five, "who are more susceptible to illnesses". given the severe drought that the country has faced in recent years.
