Americans descended from slaves accept JLO's invitation and are in Angola looking for family

This Monday, three members of the Tucker family arrived in Luanda, an American family descended from the first Angolan slaves to arrive in the United States of America (USA). The visit, which follows an invitation made by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in September, when he visited Washington DC, aims to create links between the family and Angola, as well as with their roots.

"We are absolutely sure that there are descendants here, in Angola. Our presence here proves that we are going to rediscover the family," said Wanda Tucker, one of the family members.

Wanda Tucker, speaking to Angop, explained that the visit aims to create links between the family and Angola, as well as with their roots.

The three Tuckers (Wanda Tucker, Carolita Cope and Vincent Tucker) landed this Monday morning at 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, where they were received by Joaquim do Espírito Santo, Angola's ambassador to the US.

The Tuckers' visit to Angola comes in response to an invitation made by João Lourenço, in September, when he carried out a working visit to the US capital. At the time, the head of state met with that family and invited them to visit Angola to share their experience.

According to Angop, the Tucker family descends from the first Angolan slaves who arrived in the USA, around 400 years ago. The family currently lives in Virginia (USA) and owns the William Tucker 1624 Society, which does research on William Tucker and his descendants.
