Luanda nurses suspend strike after promises of labor improvements

Luanda nurses resume work this Wednesday, after completing a two-day strike to demand better social and working conditions, informed the Luanda Provincial Government.

A statement from the executive said that an assembly of members of the Union of Nursing Technicians was held on Tuesday afternoon, in which the Provincial Government of Luanda participated, as a guest, accompanied by representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health and of the Ministry of Public Administration, Employment and Social Security.

At the assembly, information was presented on the status of the list of claims and representatives of the nursing technicians were consulted, and the meeting resulted in the suspension of the strike from 7:00 am on this Wednesday.

The statement emphasizes that the urgent need to protect the lives of the populations who flock to health facilities in search of medical assistance was the foundation for the suspension of the strike, especially in this period of the covid-19 pandemic and rains, when cases of malaria, acute diarrheal diseases and others.

The parties also agreed on the integration of representatives of the Luanda Union of Nursing Technicians in the Technical Committee for the Evaluation of Claims by Health Professionals.

The strike was also suspended after the union's bank account was registered in the Integrated System of Financial Management of the State (SIGFE), with guarantees of the possibility of processing union quota discounts from January 2022.

Among the guarantees presented are also efforts to ensure employee safety and improve the supply of medication to health units.
