The Constitutional Court is composed of 11 counselor judges, including jurists and magistrates.
From the set of counselor judges, the President of the Republic designates four, among which the presiding judge of the court, currently chaired by Laurinda Cardoso, with another four being elected by the National Assembly, by a two-thirds majority of deputies in effect, including the vice president of the court, Guilhermina Prata.
The Superior Council of the Judicial Magistracy elects two counselor judges, while only one is selected through a public curriculum exam, under the terms of the law.
