Police arrested 2104 suspects in a single operation in 45 days

The Angolan National Police (PNA) detained 2104 people on suspicion of involvement in various crimes, seized 266 firearms, 385 vehicles and 1694 motorbikes, in 45 days, as part of "Operation 45 Graus", it was announced this Monday.

The information was released this Monday by the director of Public Security and Operations of the PNA, Orlando Bernardo, during the presentation of the general balance of the aforementioned operation, which took place between 11 October and 26 November 2021 throughout the country.

Re-establishing the levels of public security in the country, after recording violent crimes in the previous period, especially in Luanda, was the purpose of this operation, which mobilized nearly 19,000 personnel at the level of 18 provinces, using 14,100 means.

According to Orlando Bernardo, during this period 135 crimes were committed using firearms, which allowed for a quick response to criminal actions, with 707 searches being carried out in hiding places, between residences, workshops and abandoned buildings.

"This entire activity allowed for a reduction in violent crimes of around 22 percent, with the difference of less than 135 crimes committed using firearms on public roads in relation to the 45 days prior to Operation 45 Degrees", stated the responsible at a press conference.

The actions of "Operation 45 Graus" allowed the clarification of 327 cases, "which allowed the arrest of 296 citizens, including four foreigners involved in the crime of criminal association, kidnapping, kidnapping and robbery".

At least 161 groups of criminals, comprising 276 elements, were dismantled during this operation, which "also caught 953 elements in the commission of various crimes".

The police commissioner also referred that "an average of more than 60 percent of the objectives set by the task force that carried out "Operation 45 Graus" were achieved.

"The preparation of an operation that will also allow bringing some security to citizens is underway, which is the festive season operation, called "Nkembo" [joy or celebration in the Kikongo language] and with it we will carry over until January 2022", finished off.
