A statement posted on Facebook by the Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL) explains that "Passeio dos Cantores" concerns a "gallery of 27 deceased Angolan singers", located on the island of Luanda.
"The first lady of the Republic made it known that the Passeio dos Cantores is a mural that portrays the life and work of musicians and aims to perpetuate the name of the great artists of national musicology", can be read in the note.
On the occasion, the first lady "congratulated the mentors of the initiative" and encouraged the creation of more residents' committees to help the GPL "in preserving the image of the capital".
The communiqué also reports that Ana Dias Lourenço, after unveiling the plaque and walking along the mural, planted a tree, "contributing in this way to the afforestation of that city".
In turn, Luanda governor, Ana Paula de Carvalho, "demonstrated her feeling of satisfaction for the praiseworthy cultural installation, adding unparalleled beauty to the island of Luanda".
She also stated that "the initiative is part of the actions of the Government of the Province of Luanda, aimed at boosting the culture sector - for which reason, the works produced by the singers who appear in the Gallery, constitute Angola's material heritage, but that everything will be done to elevate the "Passeio dos Cantores Angolanos", from "memory" to cultural heritage".
The "Passeio dos Cantores" is composed of 27 figures: André Mingas, Artur Nunes, Tony do Fumo, Alba Clington, Belita Palma, Beto de Almeida, Bangão, Carlos Burity, David Zé Jivago, Lilly Tchiumba, Vieira Dias High School, Lourdes Van -Dúnem, Luis Visconde, Malé Malamba, Mestre Kamosso, Oliveira, Matumona Sebastião, Sabu Guimarães, Fernando Sofia Rosa, Teta Lando, Urbano de Castro, Waldemar Bastos, Tony Caetano, Zé Keno, Mestre Geraldo and Wysa.
The statement says that using new technologies it is "possible to reproduce the songs of artists whose faces are drawn there. With a smartphone, the reading of the QR code, fixed at the base of each of the drawings, makes it possible for the songs to be heard by the telephone, taking each listener to nostalgic moments".
The initiative is from the residents of sector 3 of Ilha de Luanda.
