The vice-rector's visit to the country lasts until Saturday and aims to promote exchanges between the two countries. During his journey in Angola, Gerald Boodoo said he would carry out a feasibility study to identify the needs of the national market, writes Angop.
In this sense, he said that, since arriving in Angola, he has already held a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Higher Education, which allowed him to identify an opportunity to establish an American university in Angolan territory.
However, there are still some challenges for this intention to get off the ground. According to the person responsible, the biggest obstacle is related to the Angolan students' lack of command of the English language.
However, this "barrier" is not an obstacle to the idea of building an American university in Angola, as the official considers that this could serve as an opportunity to help "American professors to master Portuguese".
"But this barrier can also serve as an opportunity, because it will help American teachers to master Portuguese," he said, quoted by Angop.
According to the vice-rector of the US university, even though the idea is still small, this does not mean that it cannot be carried out, citing examples of countries in Africa where this has happened, such as Tanzania, Kenya and Ghana.
Boodoo also considered that his first visit to the country reiterates his country's interest in installing a university on Angolan soil, adding that, in an initial phase, he will familiarize himself with the programs to be implemented, in order to make the plan a reality of short, medium and long term.
Pedro Godinho, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Angola, applauded the initiative for the fact that it will save the resources that the government has spent on sending students to the USA, having informed that the focus of this higher education institution will be on courses of engineering, science, mathematics and technology, aiming to increase national industrialization.
