Hundreds of students from public and private institutions participate in the second edition of the Fair of the United States of America (USA) 2024, which takes place at the Memorial António Agostinho Neto, in Luanda, and some praised the cooperative relations between the two countries.
The US Embassy in Luanda initiative brings together several exhibitions from North American companies and universities, which present employment and training opportunities to students, as well as Angolan institutions.
Attentive to the exhibitions and lectures on how to work with American businesses, the student visa itinerary and the embassy's exchange programs, the students spoke about the importance of the fair and Joe Biden's visit to Angola, scheduled for the first week of December.
“The relationship [between Angola and the USA] has advantages, I think that over the years there will be more Angolan students going to American universities and it will help to add more knowledge”, the young student at Colégio Angolano Talatona (CAT) Bibiana Arcanjo told Lusa , who hopes to complete higher education in the USA.
Érica Fontes, also a CAT student, applauded the American embassy's initiative in keeping students in touch with the North American reality, which, she argued, should contribute to the improvement, in the future, of Angola's economy.
The young woman considered that the fair indicates the good relations between the two countries and that, “if it continues to grow (...), it will only improve and bring more benefits" to Angola.
“If he [Joe Biden, outgoing President of the USA] comes here with good intentions of helping and establishing new partnerships to develop the country, he will be welcome, now if it is just for a walk it will not be good for us”, he said.
Among the students who filled the Memorial's main auditorium in honor of the first President of Angola, was Aguinaldo Leal, president of the Colégio 7 Saberes Student Association, who defined the initiative as a “meeting of creativity and intention to progress”.
Aguinaldo understands that relations between Angola and the USA “are very good”, mainly due to the American giant’s support for Angola, classifying the fair as “a very important gain for students”.
Regarding Joe Biden's visit to Angola, rescheduled for the first week of December, the student leader said that the country should welcome him with “open arms”, believing that this will be historic and will bring “new opportunities and solutions” to the Angola's problems.
“We expect a lot of change, a North American President in Angola will go down in history, because he is a powerful President and coming to Angola means that he is looking for new opportunities and solutions to our problems”, concluded the student.
The 2024 United States Fair (US FAIR) takes place under the motto “Building Bridges to the Future: Empowering Opportunities”.
