According to a statement from the provincial government of Huíla, to which VerAngola had access, this was the eighth edition of the tourist excursion, called the 'Chick Chick Tour'.
On this tour, the various participants had the opportunity to experience the landscapes, history, gastronomy, among other things, of that place.
"Promoting domestic tourism in Huíla, the 8th edition of the 'Chick Chick Tour', promoted by the Chick Chick Lubango Hotel, took just over 100 tourists, both national and foreign, to the municipality of Gambos (Huíla), who enjoyed the best of the landscape, history, ethnographic culture of the region and the good local cuisine", reads the statement.
This 'tour', carried out in partnership between the Gambos administration and the Chick Chick Lubango Hotel, passed through several tourist attractions in this municipality.
According to a statement from the Gambos municipal administration, the excursion included visits to the "ex-military bunker, a historical landmark between Angola and Cuba and the Ducentésimo Omuhólo-Lemba Wombilayonbundo".
According to Angop, this excursion brought together tourists from Angola, Portugal, Namibia, Africa and England.
On the occasion, one of the tourists, Marcos Valade, acknowledged that tourism has increased and that its contribution to the State Budget and to the promotion of employment will soon be noticeable. However, the tourist from Luanda, speaking to Angop, pointed out that it is necessary to invest more in infrastructures that support tourism, because despite there being many points of interest, they lack accommodation and food services.
José Ferreira Antunes, a Portuguese national, stated that Angola's independence was a driving force for the growth of tourism, and he felt that there were now more Portuguese people visiting Angola, especially in the South.
Paulo Tiongo, general manager of the hotel organising the excursion, pointed out that the aim of bringing tourists was to highlight the potential of the Huíla province, with the aim of drawing the attention of tourists to certain investments, at a time when it is a transversal sector, thus needing other areas to grow, writes Angop.
While the administrator of Gambos, Francisco Barros Leonardo, acknowledged that almost 50 years of national independence have helped to awaken the tourist potential and historical sites, and is therefore committed to transforming the municipality into one of the main destinations, he also pointed out that among the sites that receive the most visits are the historical landmark of Angola and Cuba, the Boêr cemetery, among others.
