Speaking this Tuesday, as part of a visit by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to the access points to the new airport, the holder of the Tourism portfolio expressed that with the entry into operation of the AIAAN and the "accessibility by rail and highway, the Government intends to quadruple the registration of 140 thousand tourists per year".
Quoted in a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access, the government official stated "it is possible to change the situation with this (airport) infrastructure due to the fact that the country has a sovereign opportunity to diversify the 'Stop-over' program, create stops short, connections to final destinations from Angola and work with the industry, from the issuing countries, with the purpose of placing Angola as a destination to be taken into account on international tours".
On the occasion, he revealed that they have planned a program called 'Stop-over Angola', which will enable "a large part of the flow of tourists that exists" in the region to be sought.
"We have planned, in work with the transport sector and with our transport company, a program called 'Stop-over Angola', which will allow us to seek a large part of the flow of tourists that exists in our region", he pointed out, quoted in the statement.
Márcio Daniel also made it known that the country "has already consolidated tourist destinations in the region, such as South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana", and, in addition, the country is also part of of the Okavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA) project, whose "region represents around eight million tourists".
According to the holder of the Tourism portfolio, with AIAAN, "Angola has the possibility of removing part of this flow that it has with these countries, so that, before tourists reach their destinations, they make a stop in Angola", reads the communicated.
In the minister's view, this measure will serve to present the "tourist potential and the beginning of the exploration of the Angolan part of the Okavango region".
