Government says that Angola's qualification for CAN2025 is the result of dedication

The Angolan government, through its Ministry of Youth and Sports, said that Angola's qualification for CAN2025, led by Portuguese Pedro Gonçalves, is the result of the dedication of the technical committee and football players.

In a statement, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, said that the results achieved by the selection demonstrate the hard work and competitive spirit of the coaching staff and players, who, therefore, deserve the respect and admiration of all Angolans.

“This achievement is marked by three historic achievements that fill all Angolans with pride and, in particular, our young people and athletes. Firstly, the classification was assured with merit with two rounds remaining before the end of the campaign. Second, the team finished the group stage without defeat, demonstrating consistency and determination. Third, Angola achieved the highest score ever in a qualifying round. These results are a testament to the hard work, competitive spirit and dedication of our coaching staff and our players, who deserve the respect and admiration of all Angolans”, it reads.

The government official did not hide his anxiety about the preparation of the football team for the African competition, which will take place from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026, in Morocco, as well as the desire to see Angola also qualify for the World Cup 2026.

“We now have a year to prepare, with seriousness and ambition, our participation in the next CAN, where our goals will be high. At the same time, we will direct our attention to the qualifying phase for the 2026 football World Cup, which resumes in March next year. Our ambition is clear: we also want to be present at the next World Cup”, he said.

Angola drew 0-0 this Friday against Sudan, in a game on the sixth and final round, and finished the qualifying phase for the African Cup of Nations (CAN2025) without defeat, with 14 points, the result of four wins and two draws. , and achieved the highest score ever in a qualifying round of the African competition.

In Group F, Sudan, with eight, also secured qualification, while Niger finished third, with seven, after victory today over Ghana (2-1), which came in last, with just three points.
