The accident involved a fishing boat that joined the maritime procession of the Nossa Senhora do Cabo parish, patron saint of sailors, on the island of Luanda.
The bodies recovered this Sunday are those of two women, said fire commissioner Hermenio Cazucuto in statements to Radio Nacional de Angola, and the search for missing people continues.
According to the spokesperson for the Civil Protection and Fire Services, Wilson Baptista, the vessel that sank in the Ponto Final area was not one of those selected for the religious activity and was carrying too many passengers.
The accident occurred in the countercoast area, in an area with many waves, and the vessel was dragged into the bay area, a few miles from the coast of Luanda.
The Minister of the Interior, Manuel Homem, stressed at the scene that activities of this nature should be carried out in coordination with the bodies that make up the national security system.
President João Lourenço expressed his regret over what happened on his Facebook page and stressed that the authorities “are and will continue to be involved, with the utmost commitment, in the rescue work and relief of the damage resulting from this incident at sea”.
