Data collection in the 2024 census advances significantly and is already in the final stage

The National Statistics Institute (INE) indicated that the data collection process, within the scope of the 2024 census, presents “significant” progress. The assessment was made by José Calengi, director general of INE, who said that this process is progressing well and is in the final stage.

In statements after a day of inspection and work with technicians from Uíge, the director general of INE, informed that, at this moment, in addition to some difficult-to-access places that are still missing, only office services remain, in order to enable necessary adjustments and cover the information that is still missing.

According to Calengi, they have already supervised seven provinces, and the reality is similar to that found in the province of Uíge.

"We have already visited seven provinces of the country for supervision and work with technicians and the reality is similar to what we found here in Uíge", said the person in charge, quoted by Angop.

At the level of the province of Uíge, the director informed that the census team, with the help of the National Air Force, will reach the difficult-to-access areas of Quimbele this week, a municipality in which 12 villages have not yet completed data collection.

On the occasion, Calengi also highlighted people's participation in the use of telephone calls to facilitate census takers' visits to the houses that are still missing, as well as considering census takers and other participants in the process as heroes due to the work they are doing, writes Angop.

It is worth remembering that the 2024 census began on September 19 and was scheduled to take place for 30 days.

However, INE decided, in mid-October, to extend the data collection period by another month, due to constraints that occurred in the first two weeks of the beginning of the process.
