According to a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access, João Lourenço received Mambu Sita Sumbu in audience, as special envoy of the President of the DRC.
"The purpose of the meeting was to assess the security situation in the eastern region of the DRC and took place at the Presidential Palace in Luanda," the statement reads.
According to CIPRA, Mambu Sita is responsible for Regional Organizations in the DRC.
The peace process in the DRC was not only discussed at the Presidential Palace. This Monday, ministerial delegations from the DRC and Rwanda also met in Luanda, "under the auspices of the Government of the Republic of Angola, to analyze the issue of security and peace in the eastern DRC."
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to which VerAngola had access, the aforementioned delegations are headed by Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophonie of the DRC, and by Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda, while Angola is represented by Téte António, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
"This tripartite ministerial meeting aims to analyse the experts' report on the concept of operations (CONOPS) and, consequently, work on the pending security issues contained in the Draft Peace Agreement proposed by the facilitator", the note states.
Speaking on Monday morning, Téte António said it was "a great honour, on behalf of the Angolan government, led by João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and facilitator, to once again welcome his counterparts from Rwanda and the DRC, to jointly hold the 6th Ministerial Meeting on the Situation of Security and Peace in the East of the DRC".
On the occasion, the minister said he was convinced that the dialogue would be "open, fraternal and fruitful, capable of ensuring understanding between the parties".
